He was a student conductor of "Doshisha Glee Club", and after graduating from Doshisha Univ. in Kyoto, he established "Kyoto Academy Choir" in 1971. He got the Gold Medal several times at All-Japan Choral Competition and so on.
In 1984, He has won the Gold Medal and Grand Prix at the 1st Takarazuka International Chamber Chorus Contest.
In 1985, he conducted "Kyoto Academy Choir" at Fano International Polyphonic Choir Festival held in Italy as the first participant from the East.
In 1987, the 1st World Symposium on Choral Music was held in Vienna, Austria. including the Kyoto Academy Choir (director: Hiroshi Kuwayama) from Japan.
In 2013, He received the Kyoto Choral Association Contribution Award.
He, now, conducts amateur chorus groups; "Ensemble Academy Kyoto", "La Primavera", "Grace Chorus", "Ensemble Tou-oh", "Chants des Mûres", and also acts as a guest conductor and a judge at choral competitions in many parts in Japan.
A member of Japan Choral Directors Association and Takarazuka International Chamber Chorus Contest Committee (Honorary Advisor).
